We asked CrowdRules.com members to tell us whether they planned on buying an iPhone in the next two months. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 meaning that they had already purchased or intended to purchase an iPhone immediately, and 1 meaning they had no intent of buying an iPhone in the next two months, CrowdRules members responded with a yawning 2.2 rating for the new device.
While droves of people purchased the iPhone within the first few days (some estimates show that 500,000 of the devices were sold during the first weekend), the iPhone requires a two-year commitment to cellular giant AT&T. A rumor has surfaced that purchasing an iPhone with a damaged credit profile will get you a denial for the 2-year contract, yet land you an iPhone on a monthly pay-as-you-go basis.
Having seen and held a number of iPhone's in the past few days, I wonder whether the smudge factor of the handset will become an annoyance.
All that being said, the iPhone is an amazing, groundbreaking gadget. Bravo Steve Jobs for once again pioneering brilliant hand-held devices. Now let's just wait a generation or two for the bugs to get worked out...

Who's on first?
CrowdRules.com, the leader in user-generated voting, has just completed a challenge to predict the winner of the 2008 elections. The winner was Hillary Clinton, with a rating of 3.5 out of a possible 5.
For one week, CrowdRules members were asked to rate each of 20 candidates based on the member's opinion of the likelihood that a given candidate will be elected in the 2008 Presidential election.
Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Al Gore, Rudy Giuliani, and John Edwards were ranked 1 to 5, respectively. Despite not having announced their candidacies, both Al Gore and Michael Bloomberg were included in the survey. Bloomberg was ranked 6th.
With nearly a year and a half to go before the Presidential election, it's too early to predict the actual outcome. Yet voter sentiment indicates Clinton has a strong lead: Obama, ranked second in the challenge, only achieved a 3.0 rating.
Challenges on CrowdRules are user-generated: any member at any time can pose a challenge, ask the crowd to contribute possible answers in text, photo, audio, or video format, then have the crowd rate them. Everything from Presidential elections to the best new media phone can be rated.

Yes, you! The next Presidential election has started earlier - with more money being spent, more coverage, and more candidates in the field - than any other Presidential election in history. With all that noise added to the usual noise on the Internet, it's time to start filtering.
That's where CrowdRules comes in. We'll be running a regular CrowdRules candidate rating challenge to find out who you think will be the winner. We'll also include some potential candidates as well. There's one going on right now at The Next President.
How can you help? It's easy - just rate each candidate in the "The Next President?" Challenge. Each candidate is represented by their official campaign photo.
We have a LOT of ideas about how CrowdRules can be used in the coming elections. Let us know if you have cool ideas too!

Hey everyone,
We finished the first two unsigned band contests on CrowdRules, and we're pleased to say that the voting went FANTASTIC! No gaming, no problems, just great objective voting to rank the bands in the contests. Thanks to everyone who participated!
Soul Bomb from Montreal won the first contest. TGL from Greencastle, Indiana won the second contest. Grayson Brulte spoke for almost an hour with each band, giving them insight and tips on how to further their careers. We're anxiously awaiting TGL's new CD!
These contests helped the bands, and also helped us finish testing on our algorithms. Look for bigger, more exciting contests in the future!

Hey, Loyal and Wonderful CrowdRules Members!
Shh! This is a secret: even though the site says we only support video, today we just added the capability to accept embeddable Photos, Audio files and Podcasts from selected sites listed below. We'll be updating headings around the site (you know, where it says "enter video" - you can ignore that!) in the next few weeks in preparation for the official announcement. Meanwhile you, our loyal CrowdRules fans, get to play with the new media types first!
Here's the list of the sites with embeddable players we've tested and certified to date:
Photo sites:
(FYI, we're not resizing photos yet, so make sure they aren't bigger than 120x120 or so. Also, you'll be asked for the length of the photo. Hmm, you say; this is a trick question: there is no length for a photo! We know that! But until we remove the requirement, please just say your photo is 0:01 seconds long!)

Podcasts (audio or video):
Video sites:
We are designing a Facebook version of CrowdRules - we just LOVE Facebook! We think it's the future of social networking. But until our Facebook application is complete - or until Facebook supports embeddable videos - you won't be able to use Facebook videos on the CrowdRules site. Sniff...;>)
We're also in discussions with several companies to allow private streaming. More on that real soon.
We're always testing other sites. Sometimes the compatibility issue is simply about the size of the embeddable player or file. If your preferred site is not on the lists, send us an email and we'll give it a test. Please let us know if you have suggestions for other sites we should try out. And remember, you can mix and match all the different media types! Imagine, if you will, a challenge where you put up a video, and people respond with videos, podcasts, photos, and audio. You've just entered...the CrowdRules zone!

Hey Everyone,
The first Unsigned Band Contest at CrowdRules is heating up. The press release today has already been picked up by a number of news wires. Grayson Brulte of G|B Entertainment has a quick video intro he did for us this weekend when we attended a record-label kickball game in Santa Monica. That will be up on CrowdRules today.
We're going to be doing a lot of fast-moving contests here at CrowdRules. These long, drawn-out affairs that take 3 months and burn fans and voters out are not for us. Like you, we want to know quickly if we've won something or not. This is the Internet age: why couldn't we have contests that last one day? Or one hour? You can do that at CrowdRules! American Idol voting usually takes place over a one or two day period, then you know who's in and who's out.
So good luck in the unsigned band contest. There are already a considerable number of entries, so get video in before the deadline on midnight, May 12, 2007.

Hey all you unsigned bands,
The CrowdRules unsigned band contest, with the prize of a talk with music industry insider Grayson Brulte (former Epic Records) from GB Entertainment, is taking entries until midnight May 12th. This is an update from the previous deadline of May 5th. A press release on Billboard Publicity Wire will be hitting the wires on Monday, May 7th, so watch for it!
We have lots of contests coming up. And for all you unsigned bands that don't yet have a video, use CrowdRules for your own contest and ask your fans to create videos for you and pick the best ones!
We look forward to seeing and hearing bands from all over the world in this contest. For those about to rock, we salute you!
